HeroesCon and everything after…

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

So another HeroesCon has come and gone. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, by the way, and I sat next to some talented and entertaining individuals: Chris McJunkin, Lyle Pollard,  and Kenny Keen. Though I did not have as good a showing as last year’s unprecedented pull of near $300 with little preparation, I do have to say that my showing at this year’s Heroes was a far greater success than the dismal output at MegaCon. I’m not too put off by MegaCon. I still want to try again. Hands down, my biggest issue at these last two cons were poor placement on the floor. I made good cash last year simply because I was in a very exposed area and traffic was dense. Will I be back to Heroes? Definitely.

But for now, we have a new question: What next? While looking for a new form of steady employment, I think I want to get back to something I’ve put off for far too long. Now that I’m in a new city and have a new work area in my new home, I want to take a new approach to some old friends of mine.

no/fly/zone will return soon.

I’ve got some new ideas for style and delivery that I think will be very entertaining for anyone wanting to enjoy a webcomic about… well, whatever happens to drift into my twisted stream of consciousness. Having the comic back up will certainly give me an excuse to keep my hands loose and my mind sharp. No need to kill myself on an update schedule, either. Might actually give me a reason to go to cons and expect more than just passers-by. I’m excited about this and you should be too.

nfz-studios.com under construction

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

Currently, I’m putting a lot of man-hours into work on the soon-to-be new home of nfz-studios.com: nfz-studios.com. If you go there now, there’s just a splash screen, but things are in progress to make this new site more functional. I can’t wait.
Back to work.

Regarding the title: don’t ask… it suddenly popped into my head today while I was driving home from the mall behind an asshole who decided that today the speed limit was going to be 15 mph. Kill ‘em all…
Regarding the website:
Wow, loads of coding in between gaming sessions on Ninja Gaiden Black and Doom 3, I’m distinguishing certain aspects of the separate comic sites now. Different styles to the nfz-studios.com theme, with fonts, graphics, and colors relating to the projects themselves.
Lots of time spent on Photoshop just for this… whee… And I’m almost done, I just need to make some drawings for Grey Matter and Cosmic Samurai before I’ll allow their main pages to go live.
Lots of work left to do.

Lessee… What’s going on in the world of Crewsie? Not much… What’s it like to be 20? I dunno, I’ll tell you when my maturity catches up with the rest of me. Pretty much, the second half of your teens allows you the following freedom: “You’re young enough to get in trouble, but old enough to know better”. 20 I guess means “No, you’re too old to do stupid shit like that again”. Then again, we see plenty of 20-somethings on MTV and those other ass-tastic networks going nuts, drinking themselves into oblivion, and “having fun”.
I guess most people believe no one can have fun unless there’s alcohol or drugs involved. But maybe that’s me… No, that’s definitely a consensus of many people that I see who are within this generation of miscreants. Of course, I have fun just driving around at 3AM in Atlantic Beach while listening to techno. But that’s me… Yeah, that’s definitely me.
Just a little rant for yous.

Oh, and regarding all the “drama” in my friend’s lives lately: Calm the fuck down… Life is not that complicated. Be happy you’re not dead, you have people who can stand you, and move the fuck on. What one person said to another about this guy in passing does not constitute the word “Betrayal”. Betrayal is when they shoot you, stab you, poison you, steal your car, spit in your hair, or of cheat on you with someone else. Everything else is fucking trivial.
This is not to any one person, this is a message to everyone on the planet, get over yourself and fucking move on, you self-centered, simple-minded prick.

it’s a no/fly/zone in more ways than one

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

I’m a little frustrated with something on no/fly/zone. I’ve written myself into a corner. I made this webcomic so I could have these three characters running around making a movie, but for the past year, all I’ve been doing, on both renditions of the comic, it’s been exposition.
So, rather than continue with the storyline I had planned for the next chapter, I’ve decided on something a little more nonlinear. We’re gonna jump far ahead into the future, to the summer time of that year, where they begin filming. on their film, Cosmic Samurai. Should be fun. FUN!
If all goes as planned, this new storyline should begin in October.

I’ll fucking shoot someone if I actually get one of these goddamn jobs I applied for on Friday. Old Navy or Spencer, yes, SPENCER GIFTS, a place at witch I’ve been previously employed roughly six and a half months prior to this date. I’ll goddamn kill someone. The Old Navy job would actually be pretty cool to have, all it would entail is bringing in shipment from the back… I’d never have to see one goddamn customer. That’d be freakin’ great.
::crosses fingers:: Please let me get this Old Navy job. It’s only three days per week, but shit, it’s gotta be better than doing nothing right now.

Corel Painter XI, though a little difficult for the average Photoshop abuser, is a fun program nonetheless. As I gain experience and talent in the field of digital painting and design, Photoshop and Painter will probably be my lead programs. I’ve got a new item in the Gallery showing off my skills as a digital painter here. I can’t wait to get better at it.

I’m happy to say I’ve fixed some problems with the Gallery. The javascript wasn’t working with the layout because ::LE GASP!:: the html script to allow Javascript wasn’t enabled. ::smacks head:: Glad that’s over with, though.

investment pirates of the carribean

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Before long, I’ve gotta delve face first into this terrifying area known as the gallery and fix certain problems with it. For some reason, between my tweaking with the css and the template design has generated a general “fuck, that’s not working either” atmosphere. My main bitch and complaint about it is that the original images aren’t blowing up to full size when clicked on. Goddammit.
I’m this close to just throwing that shit to the wind, but I’ll give this gallery system one more chance because I’m that nice of a guy.
==
There are several full size pictures I’m working on, and even though I said I won’t talk about them till their finished, I’m known to lie and break promises from time to time (as evident with the comic’s update schedule).
==FANART==
Hellboy = Hellboy, struggling to get out of a dog pile of zombies or demons in a hellish setting while his crown of flames lights up overhead and his jacket gets torn apart.
Punisher = The Punisher stands behind a young boy who’s thrown a piece of trash onto the ground with a trash can in plain view. Punisher is threatening the kid to throw it in the trash before he splatters his brains onto the ground. (So far, i like this idea best, and the rough sketch looks funny as hell)
Batman = one thing i have planned with Bats is the generic “Dark Knight Rooftop Patrol” bit. The other one with him is a surprise for a friend of mine
Spider-Man = something where the flippy, aerodynamic webslinger is flying through the air and looking cool.
TMNT = The classic diamond formation of the four superheroic mutant turtles who happen to be teenage ninjas. Clockwise from top: Leo, looking badass with both katanas pulled, Don with his staff out, Raphael at the bottom with a stances reminiscent of Wolverine, and Mikey just eating a pizza with his nunchaku put away.
Cloud Strife = Cloud in a battle-ready stance with the Buster Sword over his shoulders
Panzer Dragoon = I’m guessing something from the Original Series involving the dragon riding into battle with maybe Edge on his back. (To know what the hell I’m talking about. Go here)
Hellboy and Ash = Hellboy is standing over a swooning beauty with his crown of flames overhead. Ash from Army of Darkness is behind HB facing some sort of hideous zombie demon Deadite. HB says “Hail to the King, baby.”
Sonic = There’s no reason why I shouldn’t have a Sonic picture up. One different from the one in the gallery. IT SHALL BE DONE!
==ORIGINAL CREATIONS==
noflyzone = Max, Jake, and Ash in a generally happy mood standing in the courtyard in front of the movies underneath the shining sun.
Waypoint Bravo = My own creations of the ten-fifteen Main roll call characters of my personal series Waypoint Bravo. I’m thinking also some character posters as well.
Panzer Dragoon: Zone = Individual Character posters of the PD: Zone dragon riders and maybe a few others.
I now more will come to me, when that happens, I’ll let you know. I also guarantee that as soon as I have them finished, I’ll get them on here and color them for you too.
later, kids.

i am my own grandpa

I finally fixed Movable Type on the server, no thanks to my webhost.
Much to my dismay, the people in charge didn’t realize that my primary dilemma was that MT was publishing my php with permissions that didn’t comply with my server settings. One would think that this problem would be an obvious one to fix for tech support moguls to fix, but it took them six days to say it was fixed, which upon check was found that everything was in fact NOT fixed. Thankfully, a solution was found only a google search away.
This will not affect my decision to switch webhosts. I’m still moving come September.
====
Went to the beach with Anthony, Amy, Chad, Vince, and Laney yesterday for Laney’s birthday. I had a grand ole’ time even though I ended up burning my legs, of all things.
I guess living in Florida all my life, compounded to being in an area of Florida so close to the beaches, I’ve sort of grown weary of truly enjoying the experience as much as some people I may know. I mean, sure, it’s got water that comes splashes you on it’s own, and sand that gets EVERYWHERE, but the beach became less “I’m gonna go play!” and more “Why the hell am I playing in someone else’s house?” The beach now seems to me as coming over to a neighbor’s (one you don’t like) house uninvited with your entire family and friends, playing in their living room, drinking and pissing in the most inappropriate of places, and either flirting or making fun of the other people who came over.
I’m not saying beach going is unethical or some stupid PETA shit or whatever, it’s just not for me. I might have liked it more if I saw more than just one female in a bikini who was actually hot. I saw a lot of buttafaces and even more just plain ugly people who thought they were sexy. That’s not sexy, that’s disgusting.
we’ll talk more later, kids.

wonderboys

Wednesday, May 25th, 2005

Some people may observe that I can appear to have a mild anger problem. Anger is the least of my worries, I assure you.
As a matter of fact, It takes a lot to frustrate me. It takes a boatload of trouble to shake me. It takes mountains of pain, frustration, ignorance, and idiocy for me to finally snap. I get that composure from my father. It takes a lot to change my mind on almost any subject that I’ve got a good background on. Hell, it took me six years to finally accept the defeat of Sega in the console wars. I get that hardheadedness from my mother.
HOWEVER, when it comes to the terms of service and the money paid for such service (translated: what i get for the money i paid), and a decision is wieghed upon the difference between two products on the nature of quality and service, the process of change is quick, easy, and affordable.
What I’m saying is: when my year is up with FuitadNET Webhosting Services, I may resort to switching to (mt) mediatemple webhosting services. It’s a little more buck, but a lot more bang. This does have a little to do with the whole Movable Type fiasco I’ve been dealing with here. Also, according to my service status, my servers have been running in the red for a while now. For the life of me, I’ve certainly enjoyed my growing experience and knowledge of web design and publishing with them, but where i wanna go, they can’t really take me.
The rest of the site can easily be transferred into thier own domains and I can open up many, many new horizons for this endeavor known as no/fly/zone. A fully functional webring that I can easily integrate all sister-sites of no/fly/zone into.
Things are growing fast around here. I hope I can keep up. Wish me luck.

they call me… “superman”

Sunday, May 22nd, 2005

Thanks to some talks with Midgit on the front of finally finishing the website as a whole, I’ve been working nonstop on the entire reconstruction of nfz-studios.com for the past week, which has claimed the lives of two comic updates. The other reason is because I’ve been having trouble with my writing and have enlisted the help of a friend to become my new editor.
as far as the website coding goes, here’s the relative completion of the website scoreboard:
no/fly/zone comic: 90% – i need to finish rebuilding the Characters and Story section.
default.user comic: 80% – i need to finish a characters section and actually restart that comic come… i dunno, September? maybe.
cosmic samurai comic: 10% – i’ll get to it soon.
waypoint bravo: 75% – design is done, story and images can be put in when i’m ready
panzer dragoon: zone: 75% – design is done, story and images can be put in when i’m ready
starwolf studios: 90% – all i have to do is begin submitting scripts and i’ll be set
gunstorm entertainment: 50% – images, design, and the works needs to be done. i decided that I’ll do the main linking images myself rather than google in some pictures
the no/fly/zone extras, rants, and reviews: 60% – images and a few other things need to be worked through
noflyzone forums: 99% – i need people to post there, that’s all.
zoneart: 100% – the blog is done, just needs a proper title banner.
the zoneart gallery: 90% – i need to tweak the css to match the zoneart style
I need to get back to work. Lata, fools. And there will be a filler up on monday!

death to the four car garage band

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

As I’ve stated before, quite clearly, this website, though finished in it’s primary design and duty, is in a constant state of overhaul and construction. Partially because I don’t have the money or opportunity to have an obsession with design like my mom does (Her hobby is buying new houses and furniture, and making it all look pretty, only to be disappointed in the package and start all over again) and partially because I have a restless spirit. Within my constraints of normalcy and the everyday status quo, changing the look of my surroundings is soothing in a sense that I get the best of both worlds where I will not be leaving a place I’m very familiar with, but it’ll feel like new for a while yet.
Thus resulting in the new layout on the main site, which I dig in the biggest ways possible.
==
So, default.user, what’s going on there then?
Suspended, probably not indefinitely, but for now neither Race nor I need the mini-comic to tie up our busy lives. It’s more my fault than anything else. I’ve got no/fly/zone and the story sites to maintain, a job to find, and school to attend. Race has a busy school schedule at FAU and though we talk regularly, getting a feasible comic strip, even on a weekly basis, is far fetched at this point.
So default.user is suspended until A: I don’t have to worry about school or work anymore, B: We get another artist to relay our demented scenarios whether it be Race or not, or C: the world ends.
In the meantime, I’ve gone ahead and redesigned default.user along with the rest of the active parts of the site. It’s now pretty to look at too.
==
I’m working on a series of prints/wallpapers to go up in the new EXTRAS section and be sold from the store. The first few will visit the three main guys taking part in their normal everyday routines. Meanwhile, the wallpapers and prints for the girls are a little more thought provoking.
And when I say “thought provoking”, I mean “provocative”, and by that I mean “sexy”. I’ve got some good sketches and they’ll be ready to be colored and inked after this next comic is done. I hope.

Well, I’m busy as hell, so I’m back to work, bitches! Later, kids.
